Sednu's Story

After spending her first year wandering loose in Iqaluit scrounging for food, living outside through an Arctic winter, and eventually being tied to a post next to a dead dog awaiting the same fate, Sednu was rescued by a wonderful couple, Cassandra & Aron, who took great care of her and eventually flew her down to Ottawa for adoption. We got her from her foster family 4 days later, and she adapted beautifully. Well done, Cassandra and Aron!

"Sednu" is a made-up name derived from "Sedna", an Inuit sea spirit or goddess.

When Sednu first arrived here, she was amazed by trees and tall buildings - have never seen either up in Iqaluit- and spent all her outdoor time looking up. Small birds, butterflies and insects are another source of endless fascination. Sednu is a loving, sweet-tempered and extremely bright dog, and an incredibly good house-pet considering her harsh beginnings. Now if only she could learn to heel a little better, she'd be doggone perfect!

Hello There,

I am still unsure how I came to get your e-mail address. My partner just sent me your site and I was so happy to see the photo's of you and your family.

I have been worried about Sednu and just kept hoping she would find a good home since she is so sweet and loving. And voila! You all found one another! (I am the person who rescued her in Nunavut, my name is Cassandra)

I can't tell you how happy I am for her!

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about her. We'd love to hear more about how she's working out in your home.

Here are some other snaps of me and Sednu and some of the other rescues.

Enjoy,

Cassandra

Here we are, all bundled up with the whole gang!

On the road, with four paws!

Hello,

You don't know me, but I, too have a rescued dog courtesy of Cassandra and her mother, Vicki. Cassandra posted the page with Sednu's photo and I had to reply. I live in Toronto, heard about "Little One" just before Christmas. She's the one who had pups on Dec 23. I knew Vicki as a dog walk friend, met Little One in late January, and the rest is history. She moved in with us in mid-February, once the pups were well on their way - they needed to be supplemented because she just couldn't feed them well enough.

Stella, as she is now called is happy with us, as we are with her. She is in training for her Canine Good Citizen Award and I hope to use her as a visiting/therapy dog. Our "real" dog, Sheena, is being a good sport about it all.

I saw pics of Sednu while she was still up north - what a sweetheart. Just thought you'd like to know you aren't the only suckers....
